Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty

The Met Gala is one of the most highly-anticipated fashion events of the year, and the 2023 theme pays homage to the late Karl Lagerfeld, a fashion icon who served as artistic director for Chanel and other high-profile brands. The event took place on May 1, 2023, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and featured a dress code in honor of Lagerfeld.

The event was hosted by Penélope Cruz, Michaela Coel, Roger Federer, Dua Lipa, and Anna Wintour, who are serving as the night’s official co-chairs. This was not a traditional retrospective, according to Bolton. Guests were able to choose outfits from Lagerfeld's vast archives at Chanel, Fendi, Chloé, Balmain, Patou, and his own eponymous brand.

At the event, celebrities and fashion enthusiasts were treated to Lagerfeld-inspired outfits on the red carpet, with many choosing to pay homage to his iconic design signatures, such as his Chanel tweeds and his black-and-white uniform. The event raised funds for The Met’s Costume Institute, and the star-studded guest list included top actors, singers, athletes, models, and artists. Lagerfeld's cat was also honoured. At least two celebs dressed as Choupette.
